More than 80 Orthopedic Companies from across the globe converge at the OCC!

In just a few short week’s over 80 companies from around the world will come Kosciusko County to attend the annual OrthoTec Conference & Exhibition at the Orthopaedic Capital Center (OCC) at Grace College in Winona Lake.  OrthoTec chose Kosciusko County as its location for this manufacturing industry’s resource for world-class education and cutting edge technologies.

Because of the concentration of orthopedic companies in this geographic area, exhibiting businesses come to make powerful industry connections. During the two-day event, exhibitors and registered attendees attended back-to-back conference sessions to obtain the latest knowledge and advanced technologies for every aspect of orthopaedics design and manufacturing. Event highlights include opening remarks from Warsaw’s Mayor, Dr. Joe Thallemer, as well as keynote addresses from Michael J. Kaplan, MD, Chief Medical Correspondent for ESPN; Nick Deeter, Founder, Chairman of the Board and Managing Director, OrthoPediatrics. The redesigned conference program will cover FDA Detroit District updates, 510(k) updates, MoM hip replacement issues, newly proposed Unique Device Identifier rule, Asian supply chain management, sports medicine, biologics and tissue engineering, and more.

Among the exhibitors, which included four industry manufacturers, Kosciusko County also had a collaborative presence at the entrance of the exhibit.  With the help of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC); Kosciusko Economic Development Corporation; Ivy Tech Community College; Grace College, Trine University; Kosciusko County Convention & Visitors Bureau; and Warsaw/Kosciusko County Chamber of Commerce, the county welcomed each visitor and provided valuable information about industry, education, life, and opportunities in the county.

Venture veterans join Elevate Ventures’ North Central and Northwest Indiana teams

Elevate Ventures has added Kregg Kiel and Kelly Schwedland as entrepreneurs-in-residence (EIRs) in North Central and Northwest Indiana. As EIRs for the statewide venture development organization, Kiel and Schwedland will work alongside Elevate Ventures’ clients, advising emerging and existing high-potential businesses, strengthening their operations, if needed, and facilitating their paths to achieving their potential.

Kiel, who will serve North Central Indiana, brings more than 13 years of experience in start-up research, single family office, angel investments and portfolio management to Elevate and its clients. Schwedland, who will serve both North Central and Northwest Indiana, is a “serial entrepreneur” who has worked on more than 30 start-ups, two angel backed companies, three companies with exits, has invested in several start-ups, was part of an INC 500 company and has grown a company to more than $200 million.

Kiel holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Ferris State University, Big Rapids, Mich. and a master’s degree in business administration, finance, from Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.

Schwedland earned a bachelor’s degree in management from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business and a master’s degree in business administration, strategy and entrepreneurship, from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. He is a certified as a Senior E-Myth Business Consultant and received the Growth 100 Award from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business.

Ancon Begins Dental Care Alliance Project in Mishawaka

Ancon and Dental Care Alliance recently announced that construction has begun on a dental center on the second floor of the IronWorks mixed-use building in Mishawaka. The project, designed by Ancon, features a lobby/waiting room, receptionist area, staff lounge with balcony, staff offices, five treatment rooms, pedo bay, lab, and other support spaces. The “floor to ceiling” windows, located in the treatment rooms, provide stunning views to Robert C. Beutter Riverfront Park and the St. Joseph River. The project, overseen by Ancon Project Manager Cullen Stanger, will be complete early-July. Warsaw, Winona Lake Earn Bronze For Bicycle Friendliness

Dr. Otis R. Bowen Passes Away

WARSAW — Dr. Otis R. Bowen, former Indiana Governor and physician, passed away over the weekend.
We, the staff of The Bowen Center in Northern Indiana, are deeply saddened by our loss. On June 15th, 1977
The Bowen Center was named after Dr. Otis R. Bowen to recognize both his vibrant support of community
mental health, and our close proximity to his home area of Bremen, IN. The staff, administration and Board of
Directors of The Bowen Center are very proud to still wear his name as a “signature of excellence” in all that
we do and continue to represent. Dr. Bowen will be deeply missed by the staff of The Bowen Center, but we
will continue to serve others in light of what Dr. Bowen demonstrated throughout his stellar life, observed by
the state, country, friends, and family each day. We will miss you, Doc.
Founded in 1961, the Otis R. Bowen Center for Human Services, Inc., is a private not-for-profit, comprehensive community mental
health center licensed by the State of Indiana Division of Mental Health.

Ancon Completes Tiki Hut at Coveleski Stadium

Ancon Construction recently completed the Tiki Hut, the newest venue at Coveleski Stadium in South Bend. The Tiki Hut, located along the concourse between the playground and team gift shop, features a full service bar and outdoor deck area. Ancon Project Manager Rick Dieringer and Field Superintendent Chris Cormican oversaw the fast-paced project which was complete before the Silver Hawks home opener. Jones Petrie Rafinski, also responsible for other Coveleski Stadium campus renovations and upgrades, was the architect for the Tiki Hut.
